Safe Space Stories
@ The Arts House
August 2018
A 4 week session starting in August 2018 in sunny Singapore.
Be inspired by writing prompts from Singaporean literature to produce your own creative writing. We will be using the Amherst Writers and Artists (AWA) Method to write in an affirming and supportive group. Click to learn about the AWA method.
Taking place at The Arts House at the historic Old Parliament Building, and led by certified instructor Paul Rozario-Falcone, we will write in a group using literary prompts that hopefully inspire free writing in short bursts. Not a creative writing how-to course, Safe Space Stories is instead a place for your creativity to feel encouraged and affirmed within a safe and respectful group.
What to expect
Each week, participants will be given writing prompts to start exploring writing in short bursts. The writing prompts can be anything from lines of poetry to images to objects. We will also write using prompts from Singaporean literature. In order to stimulate creativity, the prompts will only be revealed to participants at the workshop, just before we start writing in a group. Writers will then share their writing if they wish. Fellow writers are invited to comment by only giving positive feedback. No questions, no suggestions, no constructive criticism. Only what we like and what was memorable.
Runs 4 sessions:
Saturday, Aug 18 - 10am to 1pm
Saturday, Aug 25 - 10am to 1pm
Saturday, Sep 01 - 10am to 1pm
Saturday, Sep 08 - 10am to 1pm
$140 for all 4 sessions.
Paul Rozario-Falcone is an AWA Affiliate, certified to lead workshops in the AWA method as described in Writing Alone & With Others by Pat Schneider, Oxford University Press.
